Dog Food (Canine Diet and Nutrition) - Puppy Chow For Older Dogs

Expert: Marie the - 6/22/2009

Question
Someone told me today that giving my 12 year old Chow Chow, Purina Puppy Chow will burn out his kidneys because of the high protein content in the Purina Puppy Chow.  Is this true?  NOTE: I also give him ALPO, Pedigree and Beneful Dry Dogfoods.  He truly likes the Purina Puppy Chow the best but hence he's not a puppy so I try to mix it around.

Answer
Hello Hope, There is too much protein in the pup chow for your dog.
So, yes, if you can place him on Adult dog food only, it will help his body systems.

So, yes, the person is correct that it can hurt the kidney and liver..
