Dog Food (Canine Diet and Nutrition) - Dog food for dalmation ; blue buffalo food review;

Expert: Marie the - 7/3/2009

Question
Marie,
I just got a dalmatian mix, 2 1/2 years old, from the rescue.  She is a great dog but I am having some trouble determining the best food for her.  On one hand, I have read that dalmatians should stay away from high protein diets and organ meats. So I tried Blue Buffalo Lamb and Rice formula.  She gobbles it up but she has been having diarrhea, bad gas, and has exhibited some strange behaviors like: chewing at her paws and rubbing her body around the carpet like she has a bad itch.  I read somewhere that those can be symptoms of a grain allergy.  So now I am stuck because if she is allergic to grains and shouldn't have a high protein diet, what else is there?  All of the grain free foods I have seen either have high protein or organ meats in it. I want her to be comfortable and eat a food that is good for her and won't cause health concerns down the road.

Answer
Hi David - the Blue Buffalo should be ok for your Dalmation.
Why don't you continue the Blue but add some WET canned to the dry - use the same formula in the canned:
Do 3/4 dry kibble and 1/4 of a can of the wet Blue Dog food ( canned)

Also, for the gas and loose stools try this : Flora Force - this is a Probiotic by Nature's Sunshine and WE have had great luck!
Give 1 per day for at least 2 months and then 1 every-other-day for 30 more days: NOT a drug and very safe:
GREAT for the Digestion and Gas..... ? overgrowth of yeast in the belly and intestines.

NEXT - Please start your Dalmation on 1 1/2 NuVET wafers per day -
MOST dogs take 1 NuVET supplement per day but your kid needs a little more for a few months - AFTER about 60 days you can go down to just 1 per day - long term.
This is a wonderful Immune System booster and Allergy Blaster - helps with digestion and helps to Reduce excess Yeast.
1000s and 1000s of Dalmations are on the NuVET Program:
Only sold thru Holistic vets and some breeders:
Sold by the Manufacturer with referral from Me: Marie Peppers and order code 81098

Also, give your big kid 1 tablespoon of pure canned pumpkin each day- just 1 tablespoon of the NO added sugar kind....
Do this for at least 3 weeks.
Will help with the loose stools and adds bulk.

BEST wishes to you TWO!!!!!
