Dog Food (Canine Diet and Nutrition)/Hot dog

Question
I am trying to determine the best nutritional balance for a hyperactive male
labrador retriever ,4-year old, about 70 pounds.  The dog is being trained to
run in field trials and hunt tests, so he is exercised 5-7 days a week.  He runs
and swims as fast as he possibly can, every time he is sent to retrieve.  I
sincerely believe he could keep up with a greyhound in a short sprint.  The
problem is that he heats up rapidly, panting like the proverbial steam engine
after only one or two 50 yard runs.  The dog is medium size, but has very
little body fat, if any.  I have read that dogs burn protein, carbs, and fat for
energy, with fat burning cooler and used primarily as an energy source for
brief energy expenditures.  Given all this information, I have theorized that,
since the dog has a very low fat energy reserve, he is burning more
carbohydrates and protein energy, which causes him to heat up faster.  Ergo,
if he had a diet higher in fat, he might run "cooler.  The dog will be having
bloodwork next week to check his thyroid.  What do you think?

Answer

NuVET is number one in
Hi Ken- Good job with your research!  yes, I agree that a small diet change is in order ...
Add some BARKING at the MOON by solid gold to his food.
Do a 50:50 mix of your food and the BARKING food -  Do this mix long term..... you will see a change in a few days!

Also, please add some NuVET Supplement to his diet - I would give him 2 per day during training season / - this will add some muscle bulk and gives PUPPY energy to all ages and stages of doggies.
OFF season he can have just 1 NuVET wafer per day-
CALL and tell them Pet Nurse Marie referred you - this is Holistic and NOT sold in any stores - Many kennels and Agility Trainers use NuVET daily on the clients.
