Dog Food (Canine Diet and Nutrition)/dog food

Is it better to give dogs wet or dry dog food?

Thank You.

Hi Mary Ann,

Both canned and dry foods are formulated to be nutritionally complete for what AAFCO considers to be the RDA for all breeds of dogs.  So generally speaking it is a coin toss.
That being said, many dogs prefer wet food. With prolonged and singular use however, this can cause tooth decay.
A safer and more palatable option is to serve dry food with wet food mixed in.  This should not necessarily be canned dog food, but ideally can be home cooked human foods.  Things like plain steamed vegetables, brown rice and cooked beef, pork, chicken or fish are great enhancements to a boring dry diet.

Thanks for asking.
