Dog Food (Canine Diet and Nutrition)/dog's eating table food
we have a female dog 1 yr. 8 mos. old. when we got her we had a sick older dog who we were feeding whatever she would eat, and so with lucille who will not touch any dog food maybe take 4 or 5 pieces of a dry dog food i insist on leaving out.
she eats chicken and ground beef mostly. the only chicken she will eat is the grocery store already cooked.
i am desperate i know she isn't getting the stuff she needs to keep her healthy, so far she seems healthy.
any suggestions would be appreciated. also i have done the putting dog food down and not feeding her anything else. after 2 and 1/2 days i worried so i gave her table food. she isn't fond of seasonings. i am desperate i'm wondering about a raw meat diet for her.
i pray you have an answer that lucille will love.
thanks so much for your time.

Hi Lisa and Lucille,
Thanks for your inquiry, and I am happy to give my opinion on this subject since I actually cook for dogs!
Until 1950 there was no "dog food". Our canine companions ate what we ate for 10,000 years. Now we have been told NOT to give them anything EXCEPT dog food and in my opinion this defies logic. Is it really healthy to eat only highly processed dried nuggets for every meal???? Granted, a home made diet may not be "complete and balanced", but is YOUR diet complete and balanced? Doesn't variety help achieve balance and keep us interested in food???
That being said, I feel a home made diet of meat, vegetables and grains that Lucille enjoys is perfectly fine. Experiment and see what she likes. Make large batches and freeze it in ziploc bags. You may wish to supplement with a product such as Dinovite or Solid Gold nutritional powders sprinkled on her food just to be sure she is getting everything she needs.
If you don't want to cook for her yourself, you might want to try ordering Rudy Green's Doggy Cuisine via amazon.com.
You are a great mom for being concerned and caring about her health and well-being. It is my guess you and Lucille will be happy for years to come.
She will love itl
