Question HI,
I have a 4 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for 2 months now. She thrived on her food when I first got her. She eats Hills Science diet puupy (canned and dry) and Pro-Plan Puppy. I have adult dogs eating pedigree canned and Pro-plan adult dry and now she prefers their food. Should I supplement her diet with vitamins or anything else when she does not eat the required amount of puppy?
Answer Hi Janic,
Many will disagree with me, but I don't believe that the commercial puppy formulas are any more appropriate for puppies than the adult foods. It is more important to get the best quality food you can than it is to get the "age-appropriate" formula.
My recommendation would be to let her eat the adult formulas. It wouldn't hurt to supplement all the dogs with some ground beef or cooked chicken as well as some cooked vegetables. These fresh, human foods will give them a ton of added protein and more vitamins and minerals than any pill and they will be in a more bio-available form that the dogs can digest and utilize.
