Question
I am learning to groom my std poodle myself, it would be a plus to have a dog dryer to save some time between bathing and clipping. Can you tell me the options to pay attenion to when selecting a dryer to purchase? I don't know that I want to spend several hundred dollars on a dryer, is it possible to use a shop vac motor or an air compressor?

PS I love this forum, I've read tons of good stuff. I'm a little confused as to whether my question will be listed with the others and just curious as to why I am asking Allison Hester a Q when Jessica Cleary seems to have answered all the questions for at least the last few months? At any rate thanks for the info!

Answer
I personally prefer human hair dryers their quieter and just as effective. Not to mention cheaper and temp., blower controlled.Meaning you decide how hard you want it to blow and how warm or cold you want it.But if you really want a dog dryer look for one with speed control and is quiet. Loud noises tend to stress a dog especially those in the toy breed.Another tip I like to use is, do a pre-cut before bathing then towel dry really well. this will cut down allot of drying time and make the final cut less work.Considering you did most of the cut before you bathed.Oh, be sure your std is fairly clean before doing this since dirt can damage your blades. As far as building your own dryer, I haven't got a clue, sorry no help there. But PetEdge.com has a variety of dryers at a reasonable rate. I don't know what happened to Jessica. But I tried to send your question to the general question area.Maybe it will show up there.I hope I was able to give you some helpful tips.If not I'm sorry. Thanks for your question
