Subject: Need small clipper for tight spots on Toy Poodles

Question
QUESTION: I have two toy poodles and I have been grooming them myself for about a year now.  I have been using an Andis AG 2-speed clipper with #10 blade.  I like the Andis fine, but feel that I need to get an additional smaller Trimmer/Clipper (to get in to the tight spots) for trimming the feet, ears, anal area and tummy.  Can you recommend a good clipper for getting into the tight spots?

ANSWER: Hello Gary!
I LOVE grooming poodles, especially toy poodles, but I know what you mean about the tight spots. I personally have not tried a smaller trimmer. I have always used a #40 blade on the tight spots, and if the poodles is good and sits well, it usually works just fine. I have also used this blade before (well, one like it!)

you could look at buying some small trimmers, all I would keep in mind is the name of the clippers. I definately reccomend Andis as a good name. Osters can be good as well, but thats about it. I have not been a fan of any other clippers I have tried. I know that Andis has a small trimmer out, called the 'lola' trimmer, and Ive heard good reviews about them. Also, there are alot of cordless trimmers out there, and I have heard lots of other groomers say they would never buy a cordless trimmer again. I have not used a cordless before, so I cant say which is better.
Make sure when trimming around the anal area, and the sanitary area, you are using nothing other than a basic #10 blade, because any other could cause irritation to the dogs bum, and the risk of nicking the dog increases with a different blade.
Good Luck to you!

QUESTION: Hi Sharon.  Thank you very much for your informative and helpful response.  In trying to follow up on the new small Andis trimmer, I came across the Andis Safe T-Light Trimmer #AD24090

Could this the same as the 'lola' trimmer that you refer to?

Answer
No those arent the same ones, but they might work. Make sure you find out the return policy from petedge before buying, so that if there is any problems with them, you can get full money back. If they dont have a good return policy, try petsmart. They have a great return policy. (in stores, I'm not sure about online)
Here is the link to the lola clippers.
