Question
Hi there, we have a lab beagle mix. Our problem is that he barks nonstop the second any of us go out of sight when he is outside on his runner. I feel like we've tried everything- making sure he is played with and walked, giving him toys and bones, ignoring it, spray him with water.  I could under stand if he was out there for a very long time but we can't even be outta his sight for a second.  We are frustrated and I'm sure are neighbors are too.  Please let me know how I can help this, thanks!

Answer
Hello Heather,

Normally the situation you describe is accompanied by a cluster of other problem behaviors. Does he pull on the leash? Does he ignore commands?

My guess is that your dog feels he has the right to control your behavior and that you are lax when it comes to setting rules for your dog.

The quick fix to eliminate the barking is to get a bark collar for your dog. However, this will only treat the symptom and not the cause.

The proper solution is to obedience train your dog. Unless you teach your dog to respect your leadership, the barking will only be the beginning of your problems.

Good Luck!

Sandy
