About Kristen Cabe
Expertise I can answer training questions, both basic and advanced, and am familiar with almost all of the methods and tools used. I am not closed-minded and do not think that one method and one tool is the best/only way to train. I answer questions with consideration to both the owner`s and the dog`s needs and abilities. I am also very knowledgeable about canine nutrition.
IF YOU HAVE A HOUSETRAINING QUESTION, PLEASE go to my web page on housetraining, located at http://housetraining.angelfire.com. If you try the suggestions there, and are still having problems, let me know.
Experience I have been training for more than five years, and studying canine nutrition for more than six years. I have taken three online veterinary assistant classes given by the local community college, and received final grades in the high 90's for all three.

Subject: agression in 4 year old bullmastiff
Question Hi Kristen, We have a 4 year old bullmastif, Sampson who became aggressive with everyone outside our immediate family about 16 months ago. The aggression started around the same time I became pregnant with our 3rd child. We have taken him to the vet for a complete medical check up and his tests were all normal. He has also been diagnosed with lyme disease in the past. He has groweld/snapped and tried to bite 3 neighbors, my mother, my aunt, the mailman, our babysitter and most recently he bit, but did not break the skin of one of our friends. He is very calm, warm and loving with myself, my husband and my 3 children. I belive his agression is due to him trying to protect our family, but my husband and I are feeling like we're being irresponsible by keeping a large, aggressive dog. Sampson had training as a puppy and was great for almost 4 years...I've read all the theories of pack mentality and I do believe this is some of what he is expeireincing, but I don't know that I can ever trust him not to bite again. Can you help?
Answer Tricia, I would love to be able to help, but without seeing him in person, I cannot, in good faith, give you advice. I would strongly suggest that you consult with a local professional trainer who has experience dealing with aggression.
Is your dog neutered? If he is not, I would recommend that you have that done, because the statistics show that most dog bites are from adult, unneutered male dogs. It's simply because of the testosterone.
