Question My female cairn is almost 2 years old and I am concidering getting her a compatable friend- I know another cairn is a possibility or perhaps a westie? But I truly would love to get a silky terrier since I was told that a yorkie would be too delicate for cairn play-and I also pose the question male or female? of course my dog will actually be there to help choose-should I wait untill shes older or is now a good time?

Lots of my customers have more than one cairn. They seem to get along whether male or female. Of course, to be on the safe side, you can choose the opposite sex.
A silky would be sturdier than a yorkie and you might want to look at an Australian Terrier. They are also similar looking and are even more sturdy than a silky. I like them better, actually.
A westie is also a good choice. I think a playmate is a very good idea.
