Question My Dog is an Akita he is 13 years old, he now pees and poops everywhere and has no control, he does not even know he is doing it. Does this mean that he is just getting too old to have control, he is having difficulty getting up due to his hips. This has come on in the last two months, what do I do? he stays outdoors, he is also pooping yellow in the last 2 days hard like chalk.
Answer Dear Charlotte,
Thank you for writing to me about your senior Akita. From what you've described, your aging dog needs to be seen as soon as possible by a veterinarian. There are many reasons why he could be losing control. A vet will be able to determine what the cause is and can possibly offer medication to remedy this. Your dog couldn't be feeling too happy and may even be in pain from what you have described.
Please do the kind thing for him in his old age and have him seen by a vet. If there are no remedies than the inevitable looms up ahead, which is another topic for another day.
In the meantime, find out what is going on and then you and your vet can make necessary decisions.
