About Kristen Cabe
Expertise
I can answer training questions, both basic and advanced, and am familiar with almost all of the methods and tools used. I am not closed-minded and do not think that one method and one tool is the best/only way to train. I answer questions with consideration to both the owner`s and the dog`s needs and abilities. I am also very knowledgeable about canine nutrition.

IF YOU HAVE A HOUSETRAINING QUESTION, PLEASE go to my web page on housetraining, located at http://housetraining.angelfire.com. If you try the suggestions there, and are still having problems, let me know.

Experience
I have been training for more than five years, and studying canine nutrition for more than six years. I have taken three online veterinary assistant classes given by the local community college, and received final grades in the high 90's for all three.

Subject: My dog refuses to go to the bathroom

Question
My boyfriend and I just adopted our second pug and he's slightly older.  Our first pug was 6 months old when we got her, so training was pretty easy.  This pug is 3 years old and we're getting him adjusted to city life.  We take him on regular walks (frequent ones) and he refuses to poop.  He's only peed twice in the past couple days.  I'm not sure if it's anxiety or adjustment.  We're limited, since we live in the city, to take him off of the leash unless we're in an off-leash dog park.  Any thoughts or training methods?  We assume he's come from a home with just a yard.  He's extremely overweight, zero obedience training, neutered too.  We're working with his diet and obedience training regularly.  Thanks!

Answer
Just be persistent. He'll learn. If he has no other option than to potty on leash, he will eventually get to a point where he cannot hold it any longer, and he will go. Also, make SURE he isn't going to the bathroom in your home somewhere. It could be that he's sneaking and doing it when you aren't watching.
