About Patti
Expertise
To date, I've owned 7 dogs, all of which have lived into old age. Having cared for them in all stages of life, I feel I can offer sound advice to other pet owners, and people considering getting a dog. I am knowledgeable about the AKC (American Kennel Club) dog breeds, training and exercise, caring for sick and elderly pets, feeding, as well as many holistic treatments pets can benefit from. My only request is that you write me using standard English and punctuation.

Experience
My life experience in this field is more like "on the job training" rather than an actual degree in animal welfare. You may benefit from my experiences over the past 30 years. Aside from the dogs I've owned, I'm also involved in "breed rescue" and have fostered several dogs, all of which have been adopted to wonderful "forever homes". I find helping people who want a dog very rewarding.

Question
For the past few days my dog has been having gagging and vomiting sessions. On the first day he threw up at about lunch time and is nearly always shaking in pain.
On the second day he was gagging and shaking and was throwing up almost all day.
Today is the third day and he has been shaking,no gagging and throwing up,he pooped a little chunk about an inch and it was black, surely indicating bleeding.
Our neighbors were at a cook off the other day, they were contestants in the chicken and brisket, their Mini schnauzer ate the brisket and was vomiting.
We suspect he might of eaten some chicken bones, and maybe even the brisket.
We are not sure of about anything right now. I really need an expert answer,I hope I get one.

Answer
Hi Ashley,

After three days of vomiting, and acting like he's in pain your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian because the problem is not getting any better.

Bones can scrape, puncture, or block the intestines. Bones which have been cooked have had all of the moisture drained from them, so they become dry and brittle. As they move down a dog's intestinal tract, they splinter into tiny pieces as sharp as needles. This is how a dog may find itself in a life threatening situation.

Please don't delay any further in contacting a vet.

Best of luck,
Patti
