Question
We recently got a 3yr old yorkie (don't think she's purebred) from a family member, we are the third owner.  her first owner didn't take very good care of her and she was never housebroken.  Not sure if there was any abuse involved, just know it was not a good situation.  She then went to live with the ex husband and her kids.  Due to ex husband's work schedule he just didn't have time for her so asked if we would like her since we already had a 3 yr old F lhasa/bichon.  They get along great and have become great friends and Sadie (the yorkie) is fitting right in.  The only problem we have is with her pooping in the house, sometimes pee.  She will go potty outside and when she does she gets lots of praise!  But she won't poop outside, it seems as though she is embarrassed and she will hold it until we leave the house or are sleeping and go upstairs and poop so it is hard to catch her in the act and tell her no.  She is getting better but she used to get scared when you would pick her up and doesn't like loud noises so again not sure if she was abused and was punished, but I am frustrated about what to do.  Do you have any suggestions?  She will hold it all day long and wait till we go to sleep or even if we leave for 5 min even if she spends hours a day outside.  Help please.  Thank you.

Answer
The best way to fix this is with a crate, now what you do with that is you put the dog in there and keep her in there all the time except to be fed, walked, played with and to go outside ect And let her outside every few hours then put her back in the crate-and do this for about three weeks and then slowly let her out more,if she makes an accident back in the crate she goes for another week

Dogs like to keep there sleeping areas clean,so a crate is the best way to go
