Question Hi,
Just a bit ago my Pomeranian seemed normal, then her changed almost before my eyes. At first it looked like he was favoring a leg,but then when he shook his head he started to fall over, then stumble It looks like vertigo. Can this be anything other than inner ear? I am also worried that maybe he got into either yard chemicals or pest control at the apartment building next door- what do you think please?
Thanks in advance!
Answer This could be vestibular syndrome, but that usually presents itself in older dogs, and you don't say how old your dog is. Veterinarians themselves argue over whether that is due to an inner ear infection or is some sort of stroke. Treatment is usually antibiotics, steroids... or nothing at all, depending on the veterinarian's opinion of the cause. I've had it in three old dogs over the years, and have treated them all three ways, and the last one who had nothing but supportive care was the one who recovered the best of the three.
Now, if you think your dog has possibly gotten into yard chemicals or pesticides, you must get him into the veterinarian IMMEDIATELY. That could be a life-or-death situation.
