Subject: getting a second dog

Question
Hi,
I have a mixed breed dog.  He is a Rat Terrior and Shiba Inu mixed.  He is a sweetheart and looooves people.  He is 8 years old.  He is quite territorial and not real well associated with other dogs.  I have wanted to bring a second dog into the house but I hesitate because I don't know how he will react.  A friend of mine had told me that if I brought a puppy into the house that he would probably be fine with that.  What is your opinion or experience with this type of thing.  Any help appreciated.

Answer
Yes,a younger dog will be better, even one that is a year old-a shelter would be a good place as they know what dogs are submissive and good with dogs, what will probably also be better would be to get a female,as they tend to be less dominate

A puppy would be less of a threat,so that is a good idea
