Question
Hi, I have a one year old female maltese. She was groomed 6 days ago at our local groomer that has groomed her before. This time the groomer sheared her a little close.  After she came home she is acting odd. She is shivering or shaking and when i hold her tightly and comforter her she does not do it as bad...Also she is staying in her bed during the day and does not want to play. She is only urinating like one time during the day after I get home from work. She is caged in a large crate while I am gone to work and I see no signs of urine in the cage.  She is running from her bed to my bed and getting underneath the covers.  I am so concerned.  I took her to the vet Monday which was two days ago and he did  blood work and said it was all normal. Could you please advise if you have heard of this type of behavior.. Thank you so much ! Teresa

Answer
Hi Teresa,

Have you talked to the groomer? Did the vet do a culture to see if she has a bladder infection? Was her skin burned by a hot grooming blade?

Try enticing her to drink more by adding low sodium chicken broth to her food and increase her activity level a bit with walks or play so she can get back to herself.

Be clear on if she is getting attention from you because she is shaking or deriving comfort from the comforting. In other words, don't baby her so she learns that shaking and acting fearful get her the wrong kind of attention.

If you are not happy with the groomer, maybe take her to someone else. I hope she feels better soon.
