AboutPatti Expertise To date, I've owned 7 dogs, all of which have lived into old age.
Having cared for them in all stages of life, I feel I can offer sound advice to other pet owners, and people considering getting a dog.
I am knowledgeable about the AKC (American Kennel Club) dog breeds, training and exercise, caring for sick and elderly pets, feeding, as well as many holistic treatments pets can benefit from.
My only request is that you write me using standard English and punctuation.
Experience My life experience in this field is more like "on the job training" rather than an actual degree in animal welfare. You may benefit from my experiences over the past 30 years.
Aside from the dogs I've owned, I'm also involved in "breed rescue" and have fostered several dogs, all of which have been adopted to wonderful "forever homes".
I find helping people who want a dog very rewarding.
Despite it's aggressive sounding name, a boxer is a wonderful family pet.
It has been said that the name Boxer came from the way the Boxer likes to use is front paws for just about everything. A well brought-up and properly socialized Boxer will get along with other dogs and other household pets. Boxers are a bright, energetic and playful breed and tend to be very good with children. They are active dogs and require adequate exercise to prevent boredom.
Boxers need lots of human companionship. It's not a good breed choice if you intend on leaving it alone for along periods of time every day. Boxers don't need or want miles of running exercise, but they MUST have daily opportunities to vent their energy and do interesting things. Otherwise they will become rambunctious and bored -- which they usually express by destructive chewing. Bored Boxers can make a shambles of your house and yard, as it will make it's own mental stimulation if you don't provide it.
Boxers have earned a slight reputation of being "headstrong", which can be related to inappropriate obedience training, so it would be a big help to take a puppy Boxer to a "puppy kindergarten" obedience class to get things off on the right foot. A puppy kindergarten class also helps with socialization, which is very important. A poorly socialized dog (of any breed!) will be fearful, which can lead to defensive biting.
