Question
We have a delightful little boy with a great personality.  We got him from an occasional breeder and despite no references (parents were registered), we fell in love.  We took him immediately to the vet who said he had been weaned too young and given his shots too young and, in response to our questions about diet suggested an expensive 'vet approved' scientific diet of kibble.  He was, however, considered very healthy.

From the time we brought our puppy home to the present, we have tried to get him to eat kibble and have even added meat broth to soften it.  (his teeth are fine and sharp!) but he dislikes every type we have tried and will only take the odd nibble when it is offered.   We have also tried all sorts of canned foods -Pedigree, Western Family, etc. etc. and he doesn't like these either.  The only food he absolutely loves is the one designed for 'small adult dogs', so I have been supplementing (mixing in) such things as baby rice cereal, beef or chicken broth, carrots, potato, etc.  Everything I have read indicates that dogs don't need too much protein and this dog food is all protein.  I also made the mistake of giving him a little piece of banana and he would now probably kill me for it if he weren't so small!

Thanks

Have you any suggestions that could help us get him onto a more healthful routine or of dog foods that he might eat??

Answer
The best way to stop all of this fussy eating is to pick one brand, and put it down-and don't change it,as that makes the problem worse.Usually after four days they just get hungry and eat-dogs won't let themselves starve if food is presented. But the problem is if they know you will change every time they stop eating,it will form an annoying habit of becoming fussy all of the time. This is a common problem, but easily corrected by putting your foot down. It's much easier to break him of this now, rather than when he is an adult.
