Dogs - my lab dog

Expert: Shelley Davis - 11/1/2009

Question
my 2  year  old lab has an infected nipple and i have put antibotic ointment on it and peroxide on it. what can i do i am worried its  cancer and i love my baby.

Answer
Dear Katherine,

Thank you for writing to me about your 2 year olf Lab.  It's very important to have your vet examine your dog to determine what is causing the infection.  There is a condition known as mastitis, which if left untreated, can lead to gangrene and spread throughout the bloodstream and become fatal.  Please call your vet as soon as possible to set up an appointment.

Best of luck,
Shelley Davis
