Dogs - potty training

Expert: Melissa Wiser - 11/5/2009

Question
How early is too early to start potty training schnauzer puppies.  I have two 7 1/2 weeks old.  I have only had them for 2 days and I am firm believer in crate training but I have never had any this young.  Just wondering

Thanks

Answer
Hello Carole;
I am still traveling till Monday...but, here is some quick tips:

1) Use your Crate to give them an area of "Time Out"...in other words, not to use for activities...including "Potty".
2) Carry the pups to the area you want them to use, and "Praise them"!!! When they go
3) Use an Exercise Pen to cord them off when they need to exercise, and then put them in there if you cannot watch them with newspapers...this will give them another signal to look for "Newspapers"!

All these things are basic simple steps, and use your home as a reward system to let them be in it with you under supervision when you can.

If you have further questions, then feel free to ask,
Best wishes, and Enjoy the pups!!!
Melissa
