Dogs - schnauzer temper

Expert: Susan Potts - 11/4/2009

Question
We have a 5 year old schnauzer and a 3 year old pug, both male
The schnauzer keeps atttacking the Pug, today I had to break up a fight that had lasted at least 20 minutes, since I have had a heart attack, and severe chronic tendonitis of my shoulders this doesn't help any.  I finally got them separated to let them cool down, but this will not stop.  They both draw blood and the two will not quit, even when spoken too in a quite voice, which I am sure they cannot hear while fighting.  My husband and I argue about this as to who started the fight and 9 out of 10 times the schnauzer just spazzes out.  he doesn't bother our cats or other dog, just the pug.  Can you offer any suggestions about how to better handle this situation?  Thank you for your time in writing back.  HELP!!!!!!!  We love both of these dogs and they have a nice big home to live in and are well cared for.  Could the schnauzer be bi-polar, or maybe just aggressive.

Answer
Hello Sue,

It sounds that your schnauzer just doesn't like the pug.  I'm sorry I don't have much to offer in this problem.  Keeping them separated maybe the only thing you can do until you get a corrective solution.
