Question I have a collie/yellow lab mix. He is 8 yrs old. We have had him since he was 5 mos old. He has never chewed until recently. For the past 5 years has slept in an area of my kitchen that is closed off by a wooden child gate. The are is large enough for him to get up and walk around and he has always seemed content. Recently we woke up and the gate was half eaten! We are at a loss. He also chewed the bottom of a chair that was blocking a door. Any suggestions?
Answer You could try leaving some interactive challenging toys out at night to keep him busy. If he's home alone most of the day, he's probably sleeping alot and isn't really tired at night, so he gets bored.
Or, get him out during the evening and give him some exercise and long walks so he WILL be tired when it's time for the family to go to sleep.
