Dogs/New Puppy, so many issues
I recently got a new puppy. He is 10wks old (Black mouth cur, pit bull and mastiff) The puppy is used to being in a garage, I don't know any other details. I also have 3 adult (large) dogs that stay outside during the day and are in a crate at night in the garage. Anyhow, the puppy is so terrified when he hears the dogs barking, that he even got away from me and literally ran to the pond, jumped in and fearfully swam to the middle and had to be rescued from it. Anytime he hears a loud or unknown noise of any type, he runs fearfully and doesn't respond to me at all, I have to chase him down pretty much. I cannot put him in a crate because he literally flips out and will end up hurting himself. Sometimes Im able to lure him outside with treats but not very often. For a few days, he was doing pretty ok going to the bathroom outside but then all the sudden, he totally stopped. He doesn't want to go outside at all, in fact he will pee all over himself trying to get back in the door. Im at a loss, I don't know what to do. Hope you can help?
Thanks for the question... Sounds like some abuse must of happened to your pup. This pup had to come from a puppy mill that did not care about the pups or the moms and dads. The poop little guy was most likely beat for peeing where he should not of. It's going to take some time and patience. Dogs can understand about 300 words and have the IQ of a 3 year old child so talk to him let him know this is his new house and you love him and you will never hurt him....Lots of hugs and treats.
You can try putting some treats about 15 or 20 feet away from the door and carry him out there and see if he will eat them. If he wants to come in after that then fine. Do it again with the treats and have a few more on you if he eats them give him lots of praise. If you take him out the back door try the front door. It's going to take A LOT of patients.
