AboutBecky Expertise I have owned dogs my whole life. I was a veterinarian assistant for several different vets, so I might be able to help out on health issues. Although I love all dogs, my favorites are the toy breed. I am not a breeder, so those type of questions should be directed to someone who is. I have three chinese crested, two chihuahuas and one yorkie/silky mix. I would be happy to answer any questions on these particular breeds,or just dogs in general. Please keep in mind, however, that I am NOT a Veterinarian. If you feel your dog is seriously ill, then please take your pet to a qualified professional. Although we "experts" try to help you with your questions, it is impossible to "see" or "touch" your dog through a computer. If you feel your dog's life is in danger, please call a Veterinarian immediately. Thank you!

Question Hi Becky, I'm concerned that I won't be able to afford a second roung od cephalexin for my dog. She had a broken tooth that got infected, and has developed an abscess. IS it okay to give her my left over prescription of cephalexin? It's the same strength, 500mg, and Ihave just enough to finish her treatment. Thanks/
Answer Hi Danielle,
I hesitate to say yes on this, but then I don't want to say no either. If it is the exact same drug and the mg are the same, then I think it should be ok. The reason I hesitate is that I wonder if it may be a different type that is used for animals but I really don't think so. I really think it will be ok, but I stronly urge you to ask your Veterinarian to make sure. If you feel uncomfortalbe asking there, call another Vet and ask them. I really tend to think it's the exact same thing, but I would feel better if you confirmed that.
