Dogs/Daschund Skin Problem

Question
In the last 3-4 days, my 3 year old male daschund has lost an extreme amount of hair in all areas of his body, resulting in bald spots. They are not red or inflamed. I was suspecting mange, but I also have a 2 yr old Rotweiller(that he shares quarters with) and a 8 yr old min schnauzer and neither of those 2 are having problems.  Do you know of anything else that this could be?

Answer
Hi Glenda :-)

This could be caused by any number of things hun so I wouldn't like to say. But Mange is definitely a option.

If your Daschund has been in contact with any other Dogs within the last 2 weeks then this could mean he picked up a skin infection or even Mange from another Dog. I would advise that you keep your other 2 Dogs away from your Daschund until he's been checked and cleared by your Vet for Mange.

This could also be caused by a bacterial, yeast or fungal skin infection. You will need to see your Vet for this also because it sounds like your Dog is having a rough time at the moment.

Also ask your Vet to perform a skin allergy test and a skin bacterial analysis test. Also take a urine sample with you to the Vet incase its caused by something in his urine.

Take care and all the best and please leave me a comment.
