Doors, The (Jim Morrison) - Jim Morrison

Expert: Daniel Keating - 1/2/2009

Question
Actually, this is not a question but a request. I'm doing a work of Jim Morrison for college, and I wonder if you could check it out and send me your commments. It's a literary comparison with Edgar Allan Poe, although it might look unlikely, there are lots of similarites between them. I've read almost all Morrison's poetry, including Far Arden and An American Prayer, and some of his biographies (The Lizard King by Hopkins and The Jim Morrison Scrapbook...) I couldn't find some books like  Angels Dance and Angels Die, nor Rimbaud and Jim Morrison: The poet as a rebel...so if you've read them you can tell me if they might come in handy for my work.

Answer
Hi Arturo,

The book Rimbaud and Jim Morrison, the Rebel as Poet is an interesting read and does have some uncanny similarities between the two. The problem with it is the author, Wallace Fowlie, he, admittedly, had very little knowledge on Jim Morrison so there are far too many glaring mistakes throughout. If you were to write a book on someone, you would think the author would take time to study the subject.

Angels Dance, Angels Die, is easily one of the best books written on the subject of Jim Morrison, however, it is mainly about his relationship with Pamela Courson so may not be what you're looking for.

A book that might help you would be The Ultimate Doors Companion, which offers an excellent insight to the Doors lyrics and influences.

Regards,
Dan.
