About Shannon Marshall Lush
Expertise
I am mostly conversant with the era of the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, however I have a deep and thorough knowledge of the entire history of the series as well as the spinoff merchandise. I edit a local magazine devoted to the series as well. I have limited knowledge of the audio plays and the book range; mainly it is the series itself I am familiar with. I enjoy the production and effects realm of the series and the factual minutia as much as the stories themselves.

Experience
I have been a devoted fan for over 15 years and enjoy all aspects of the series, both the original and current.

Organizations
The AYUDWFCON (As Yet Unnamed Doctor Who Fan Club Of Newfoundland), a local branch of devoted fans who have created fan episodes and publish a magazine, The Whostorian Quarterly, of which I serve as editor and which is the only not-for-profit Canadian magazine to have the distinction of being placed in the Center For Newfoundland Studies and the Canadian Public Archives. I also am a member of the Newfoundland Writer's Alliance.

Publications
The Newfoundland Herald (provincial arts magazine), The Quill And Quire (Ottawa Standard newspaper annual supplement), The Evening Telegram (provincial newspaper), numerous trade publications, others.

Education/Credentials
I am a published author with numerous articles in local, national, and international magazines and newspapers, and a published volume of poetry. I also have won local and provincial writing awards.

Awards and Honors
1993 Honourable Mention, Newfoundland Writer's Alliance Arts And Letters Competition.

Past/Present Clients
Mulberry Books Publishing, St John's, Newfoundland, Oui! Films, Quebec City, PQ, Moonside Press, Newfoundland, Flanker Press, Newfoundland, Commoner's Publishing, Ottawa, ON, others.

Dr. Who - the doctor and cats

Expert: Shannon Marshall Lush - 9/22/2009

Question
why in fear her does the doctor say im not a cat person but in gridlock he picks up one of branigans kittens and strokes it and why did the sixth doctor wear a badge with a cat on it if he doesnt like them?

Answer
In 'Fear Her', which takes place after 'New Earth', The Doctor was making a reference to not liking cats due to his problems with the cat-like species he encountered in 'New Earth', it was meant to be a humorous line to help continuity with a previous episode, as many episodes do. Overall, cats factor into a large part of the Doctor's mythology...in the 'New Adventures' series of novels, he even has a cat, who wanders around the TARDIS and pops up from time to time. The Sixth Doctor adopted the cat motif as a connection to how the actor, Colin Baker, wished the character to be seen...like a cat, the Sixth Doctor was aloof, subject to nobody else's rules, and did as he pleased. The Doctor, in all his incarnations, has been shown to be a lover of animals, and even taken out of context, one line in 'Fear Her' standing alone wouldn't be able to erase all the previous comments and such things as the Sixth Doctor's badges.
