About Inkwolf
Expertise
I can answer questions about classic-era and modern American comic strips, and have a good store of knowledge about animation and animated cartoons of the past. I know a bit about some American and European comic books (Humor only.) I can help with questions about traditional media and some computer methods of drawing and animating. And I can recommend some excellent and useful books! I can't give any idea of the monetary value of original artwork/animation cels, etc.

Experience
I have been cartooning and studying cartooning and animation for over 25 years. I maintain a comics website online, and have created online tutorials for using Painter 5 and beginning 3D art creation. I am also a library technician, with experience in research. I have frequently answered questions at CartoonsForum.com.

Question
Hi -
I realize you can not give me an estimated value, but thought you could point me in the right direction, or to the right publication to possible sell these.  I have three watercolor portraits - Porky Pig, Petunia Pig and Sniffles, approximately 14" square.  One is signed by Leon Schlesinger (with a cirled "c" - which I think means someone signed for him?) and the others simply initialed "LS". They are in excellent sealed famed condition.  HISTORY: They were made by Warned Bros. for the Edwin M. Knowels China Co. (approx 1932-33) to make decals for a childrens dinnerware set. The project never materialized.  I came into possession because my father was the are director for the China Co. at that time

Answer
Hi, Lindra!

The circled C is the symbol for Copyright. I doubt Schlesinger drew them himself, as he was a producer and not an animator or artist, as far as I know. But those sound like some pretty interesting pieces of memorabilia you have there.

Many of the galleries or businesses that sell animation art ought to be able to give you some sort of appraisal or idea of what your pictures are worth.  Here are links to a couple of sites I found that advertise that they do appraisals:
http://www.vintageip.com/
http://www.animazing.com/cgi-bin/cart/cart

Please note that I have not done business with these sites, am not affiliated with them, and know nothing about their reliability or integrity--I only found them on a Google search. If there is a gallery in your area that sells animation art, it might be worth your while to check with them.

Cheerio and good luck!
