Subject: Rogers xp8 thickness(millimeters)
Question Hi,I was reading serveral Q & A's on xp8's and my first question is how many millimeters thick are the shells, since not all eight-ply shells are the same. Secondly, how do you tell if your bearing edges are worn and where or how can I recut them. I own a eight piece xp8 8x8,10x10,12x12,13x13,14x14,16x16,22x18 and a 14x6.5 superten. (the beat series) I also feel the same as in a previous statement"you couldn't get them any from him with a gun",in one of the threads. Thanks, Mike
Answer Mike--
Shell thickness---If you measure your shells, then you can convert that number to millimeters.
It is best to use a pair of calipers for the measurement.
Bearing edges--take of both heads--place the drums on a counter top--make the room dark--place a flashlight inside--if you see any light escaping from the bottom, then you have bad edges.
Unless you have a fully equiped woddshop, then you can't recut them.
1st you need to make the shell perfectly flat.
You do this on a panel sander.
Then you recut the edges on a shaper table.
You can either take them to a drum repair tech or maybe talk a wood shop into doing the work.
Have fun with them.
Great drums.
