Question Hello,
I am a high school student who is writing a paper about how many people believe drummers just "bang on things" when really we are musicians too. Do you have any way I could find information on the extreme technique that is involved in drumming. Also do you know of any famous intellectual individuals many people look up too who not many people knew were drummers.
Finally do you know any studies that correlate drummers to the use of drugs and alcohol abuse.
Answer Hi Bob,
Let me give this a try, not questions I normally get for sure.
Well let's see. I am a drummer, a percussionist, an author, composer, arranger, conductor and recording artist. I have 3 degrees in music and have many publications. I suppose that means I do not just bang on things. In fact, every college percussion teacher, every professional drummer and orchestral percussionist share many of these same skills and accomplishments. You can look up any major symphony orchestra or read any number of jazz publications and magazines to look these folks up.
Go to vicfirth.com - there are tons of articles and interviews and videos on some of the greatest drummers and percussionists in the world.
On your last question, probably more than half the drummers in rock bands today and from the past 30 years were substance abusers. Look no further than Charlie Watts from the Stones.
Where you can find that information is something I can't help you with however.
