Question
QUESTION: Hello mike,
Have had a fair few vintage kits over the years but only ever one at a time,i have recently bought a rogers fullerton california set in black oyster pearl which will be delivered friday the sizes are 22/14 16/16 13/9 and a 12/8 the kit has fullerton california usa badge, the two mounted toms are double sided script logo and all have ,ive been told 60s 70s paper labels in them. All seem to have original rogers heads, clear with rogers written in red and all have original dampeners. I have two questions, 1 i paid 490 english pounds for the kit which is said to be in very fine condition all original,is this about the right price? ..2 the only issue with the kit is a6ix inch split behind the 16/16 script logo badge...will this split further and if so what can i do to stop this..this i not a bad split but all the same however invisible it is , it is still there.

ANSWER: Chris,

I have not been to England since 2002, so I do not know what the exchange rate is for pounds.
So how much is 490 pounds in US dollars?

When I was there it was 1.6---- so 490 pounds would have been $784 US at that time.
I am sure that the pound is worth more now.

$784 is WAY too much to pay for a mismatched kit that has problems.

The split in the finish may or may not split any further.
I do not know of any way to stop it from splitting further.

Hope this helps.

Mike

QUESTION: Hello again Mike,
Not sure i was too clear  with my last post..i meant to say the labels are either 60s or 70s ive yet to see them but im assured the kit is all original and was bought from new as a whole kit ,apart from the split it it is said to be and looks extremely clean, wrap, and chrome work.

Answer
If your kit is a Fullerton kit, then it should not have 60's tags on it.

I still think that $784--whatever 490 pounds is worth at this time, is too much to pay for a kit that has problems.

But that is just me.

If I were you, I would start looking around for a few replacement lugs.

They are getting real hard to find.

Mike
