Drums & Percussion - 7 stroke roll.

Expert: Lynne May - 8/31/2008

Question
In the state of Indiana they have a competition called ISSMA. There I will perform a snare drum solo. Before the solo the judge calls 3 rudiments for me to play. I'm curious about the 7 stroke roll. When playing a 7 stroke roll do I keep it on the left hand the entire time? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi, Eric--

The seven stroke roll does not alternate starting hands. You can start on  either hand, but you must continue to start on the same hand.

Best Wishes,
Lynne
