I am looking online for brushes that make a quiet sound even when I hit the drums hard? Can you recommend a type of brushes that does that and if I can by them online?

I could help you more specifically if I knew exactly what you are playing, but try this:

These are very interesting--a cross between sticks and brushes with adjustable tone rings. There are also several other options on the page.
