Drums & Percussion - Samson drums

Expert: the - 8/2/2007

Question
I bought a drumset at a yardsale a number of years ago for almost nothing.  It had no real identifying marks, but said SAMSON on the bass heads and had a SAMSON sticker wrapped around the snare stand.  The set came with a set of CAMBER II cymbals, but I know those are garbage.  Since, I've taken the wraps off, painted the set, and am now recutting the bearing edges.  Could you tell me anything more about this SAMSON brand?  Did they make the shells, or just the hardware?  Are they worth anything now that I've ripped em apart?

Answer
Scott----Samson was your typical Taiwan company.
They started out making decent hardware and then got into making drums.
The drums are probably Phillipine Mahogany.
The hardware was popular in the 70's-early 80's.
The drums never caught on.
The Camber cymbals are NOT garbage. They are an OK line of student cymbals.
Camber is owned by Sabian.
They are worth whatever you can get for them.
Hope this helps.
Mike

PS--Please explain how you are cutting the bearing edges.
