Drums & Percussion - interior shell finishing

Expert: Paul E - 1/2/2007

Question
Hi Paul: My name is John from the USA. I read your remarks regarding drum finishing. Excellent! But I just bought a "mid-range" gig kit (Premier Cabria) that has no interior shell finish. (No wonder they were so cheap) My Premier Signia kit has a clear finish on the inside. Since I have to keep these drums in my finished garage which has no air conditioning, I'm thinking I should coat them with something on the inside. Are Polyurethanes not acceptable? FYI: These shells are 7-ply Mohogany. Thanks,
John

Answer
Hi John, thanks for ur kind comments, first of all, I dont know much about the Premier series of drums.
You mention two models in your question, which is it, the Signia or the Cabria.
Though if the shells of whatever model it is) has no interior finish, a couple of coats of any suitable wood varnish (remembering to sand down between each coat and cleaning off all the dust with a damp cloth) should suffice.

Give it a go, u mite be amazed by the results.
