Question
Hi,

I opened up a website and need to know the BEST and quickest ways to drive traffic to it. Please help. Searching the web only gives me ezines that people want me to buy.  I need real answers. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Heather,

There are a few ways to drive traffic to your website.

The fastest is to spend a lot of money on adwords type advertising with Google, MSN, and Yahoo. You have to learn how to do this effectively in order to keep from wasting a lot of money. Here is a free book from an expert. http://ewebsmith.com/awmadeeasy.pdf

Your website must also be search engine optimized and listed with the major search engines which will increase traffic from search engine lookups. Your website must include a lot of content. Here is a free book from the same expert. http://ewebsmith.com/seo_madeeasy.pdf

Other than these two primary methods, you can write in blogs, ezines, and respond to news articles including a link to your site. You have to be careful not to spam when you are doing this. You can also submit articles with links to your site to the thousands of free article submission sites that you can do a search for. Exchanging links with other webmasters will also help. Article submission still helps but is not what it used to be. Here is a link: http://ewebsmith.com/OLBus/articlesubmission.html

Do not place ads with the free click exchange and pay-to-click sites. You can get a lot of traffic this way but the major search engines consider this to be artificial traffic and will penalize your site on lookups. The people viewing your site will be other people trying to sell things and they don't buy. These sites are only good for signing up affiliates to any affiliate program that you may be participating in and for creating mailing lists. While you can occasionally make a sale with the free safelists, these are also in the same category. If you are publishing Google clixsense ads, these sites will get your account canceled. Here is a link to more information on these sites and how to use them. http://ewebsmith.com/OLBus/freetraffic.html

These things will help you, but unless you have a lot of money to s[end on ads, don't expect a lot of traffic overnight. Building up a large following online without money is a long process requiring a lot of hours and hard work.
