E-Commerce, Web Businesses - domain

Question
Hello

The domain name I have was created when I read back than, that the  "1" in the beginning of the URL, will put you on top of the list in SEO  - what a mistake.  However, can I purchase another domain name and direct/share the 2 URL's   so that I can still keep the current old one and gradually switch to the new one.  Please explain.  Also, any recommendation as how to add a shopping cart?  I have a merchant account already - Visa + Matercard .   buy a software, join some program??  looking for an inexpensive solution.  And last one, any good SEO program or advice

Thank you,   Gabe

Answer
Hi Gabe, I will try and help as much as I can here with the limited info.  You can buy a new domain and have it redirect to the new site using what is called a 301 redirect.  You can also use 302 redirects which some SEO's use - but it is NOT a good idea. It's basically creating search engine spam.  Adding a shopping cart to a site is pretty involved. You can find some like XCart and the like that are pretty turnkey.  You have to be careful with carts - making sure they are search engine friendly, which some of the cheaper ones are not. Ideally, you want each product in your cart to have it's own optimized page and not be stuck behind a https situation.  I'd try xcart.  Good SEO programs - none of the automated ones are "good." SEO is a manual process that starts with an overhaul to your site and then a monthly maintenance to keep up on changes to the various engines. Ideally, you also loop your public relations and social media programs into your SEO as well for ideal results. You should be able to find SEO companies, like ours, AmandaVega.com, that can help you starting around $2,000 to start and then $1000 a month.  There are also some like ours that offer complete packages including the site design, SEO, PR and social media for retainer that start at $3K/month inclusive of it all - including your cart!
