AboutRoger Ellman Expertise Helping small companies ensure their website has the right approach for greatest success in appealing to visitors, customers. Promotion effectively via the internet (but can answer only 1 or 2 specific questions at a time, here!). We know what works and what does not. We need a description of the website and the business it is serving (or intends to).
I will try to proffer advice that bridges the gap between the "tech" or "IT" people and those with less of a technical approach.
If you have the idea and are business-savvy - but the "newspeak" of high technology gets you down, you`ve come to the right place!

The domain name I have was created when I read back than, that the "1" in the beginning of the URL, will put you on top of the list in SEO - what a mistake. However, can I purchase another domain name and direct/share the 2 URL's so that I can still keep the current old one and gradually switch to the new one. Please explain. Also, any recommendation as how to add a shopping cart? buy a software, join some program?? looking for an inexpensive solution.
Thank you, Gabe
Answer Gabe
I will address one idea with regard to the domain name.
If the domain you now use is say, 1Gabe.com, but you have just bought Gabe.com - you might continue to use 1Gabe and just point (forward at the domain registry/shop you bought the name at. This is simple and will mean that those who may forget the "1" at the beginning of the name will still get to your website.
Changing the name has many aspects and some risks of being lost to word of mouth referral, customers, and to search engines.
If you do change the name completely , hosting only Gabe.com you want to do a 301 permanent redirect from 1Gabe.com and try to get all new links to your site as Gabe.com (ideally inform/ask any important linkers to your site to update the links).
Look at this also on forums etc on sites such as www.highrankings.com , seobythesea.com and searchenginewatch.com and searchengineland.com
For the shopping cart look at wilsonweb.com and the other sites I have mentioned above, there are many options and amongst these sites you will find authoritative and easy to grasp definitions of what you need.
