E-Commerce, Web Businesses - email marketing

Expert: Dean F. Mapa - 11/25/2005

Question
We are a small Company in the UK with a unique 3/4 image poster in-store advertising illuminated unit.  The unit can brand a product or Company. It can make weekly/monthly in-store promotional offers (supermarkets, hight street stores, etc.) We have 2,000 email addresses of major decision makers in Advertising & Creative Agencies.  The executives are mainly directors who have major Clients who want unique point of purchase display units.  My question:  we want to send an email to these executives showing our world patented pop in-store unit.  We would like a compelling subject line statement which will make them open the email and, if possible, a small outline of what to put into the email, .  These email addresses are NOT opt-in.
Thank you in anticipation.
Kind Regards,
Norman McKinley

Answer
Hi Norman,

A compelling subject line should always be your most compelling benefit (what the customer can get out of what you're selling). After the salutation, and try to use the prospect's name, not "Dear Friend," make a bullet list of other benefits. Then let them know a bit about your company.

Since your email addresses are not opt-in, you have to provide a way that the owners of these addresses can opt-out so you won't ba accused of spam. But also state you will be sending them more information.

Here's a great resource on writing sales copy:

Hope that helps.

To your success,
Dean
