Eagle - 1983 AMC Eagle Rear Lights

Expert: Tom Joy - 10/4/2004

Question
My wife's 1983 AMC Eagle is having an issue with its tail lights - they don't work. The brake lights work, but her tail lamps will not turn on when she turns on her headlights. I figured that the problem was a bad fuse, but I cannot seem to find the fuse box. It also occured to me that maybe she has a bad blub that might be causing boths lights to malfunction, but I cant find any bolts to take the tail light housings off. I really need to find the fuse box and figure out how to remove the tail light covers. Can you help?

Answer
Sure I can help. I worked on Eagles when they first came out in 1980 thru 1988. In fact I had 3 eagles myself.

The fuse panel is located up under the dash directly behind the headlight switch. Look hard it's up there.

I have a complete tail light assembly currently on Ebay.

The bolts are actually nuts that come off from inside the back end. You have to peel back the carpet directly behind the tail light assembly to see the nuts.
