Question I have a 96 Eagle Talon 2.0 non-turbo that keeps losing belts. I am now a pro at changing the alternator and power steering belts in under 10 minutes. However, this has become an expensive habit. We had to change the powersteering pump and we bought a new pump. We had to put the old pulley on the new pump, and it has thrown the belt ever since. When the car is running and the belt is on, you can actually see the slight wobble in the P/S pulley. The car only threw the P/S belt until recently, when it has started to throw the alternator belt as well. I can drive without the P/S belt, but definitely not without the alternator belt.
I also have an EGR valve that is bad. It throws an engine code every once in a while that says "Insufficient EGR Flow". We have replaced the valve with another used one and still have the same problem. Because of this problem, the car doesn't have a steady idle and sometimes dies out. I have popped the clutch to start it a few times and we think having to re-start all the time might be bad on the belts and pulleys. Any ideas?
Answer You definitely need to replace the power steering pulley if it wobbles. Have your EGR yalve replaced with a new one and check your timing using a harmonic balancer.Chiltons manuals are great for learn/DIY mechanics. Get one on the Mitsubishi counterpart.
