Eagle Repair - alternator light

Expert: autohelp - 2/10/2005

Question
I have a '93 eagle talon 2.o not turbo.  My alternator light came on, so I replaced my alternator after I bought a new battery and checked the connection.  I also replaced the alternator fuse which was blown.  The light is still on and I don't know what else it could be.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Did you have the alternator TESTED before you installed it ?. It is very possible that the alternator is faulty.

Did you recheck to see if the fuse is blown again and or ANOTHER fuse may be blown ?.

Are you POSITIVE that you got the correct alternator as there is a different alternator depending upon if your dash gage has a VOLT METER or a LIGHT.

You can also remove the alternator from the vehicle and hand carry it into any larger parts store such as autozone, pep boys, NAPA, etc and they will usually test your alternator for FREE. They will also test your battery for FREE.

Using a standard test light do you have battery voltgae at ALL times at the single large wire at the alternator ?.

Do you have battery volyage at one of the 2 wires in the small electrical plug at the alternator when the ignition key is in the ON position ?.
