Question
I have a 1996 Passat 4 cyl, , 48,000 original miles. This car is in the shop more often than not. We bought it used two years ago from a Used Saturn dealer with only 26,880 original miles, thought this would be a great car. Boy were we wrong. Timing belt went at 28,000 miles. other major things to numerous to mention. Wrote to VW, only to be told bought it used deal with it. The most recent problem is electrical, speedometer dont't work, it was running rough, bought it to my mechanic, he told me there was some sort of electrical fire in the car, he replace many wires plugs, ignigtion wires, cam sensor, because this code kept coming up. He had the car three weeks, and now the check engine wont go out. It will not pass inspections or emmissions. He is baffeled. If I take it to the VW dealer, he will charge me an arm and a leg. I have put so much money into this car this pass year, I cannot beleive it. Any help would be appreciated .    Pam Kelly

Answer
Without physically seeing this vehicle the possibilities are way to numerous to even make any type of suggestions, Especially if there was an engine fire that damaged numerous electrical wires.

Some states have what is called an IMPLIED WARRANTY for just this sort of disaster from aused car facility. Contact your better business bureau and or also some states have what is called a BOARD OF ARBITRATION which is not very expensive and you can file your case with the local government in your city.

Other than these suggestions, I'm afraid you do have a major problem to deal with.
