Subject: Industrial Piercing Options
Question
I have been interested in getting an industrial ear piercing. I currently have two holes in my lower ear lobes that had no problems healing but when I tried to get my upper ear pierced in the cartilege I developed a bump around the hole. I didnt know too much about piercings at the time I got so I felt something was wrong because it wasn't healing. I worked with it applying pressure to get the bump down but eventually I just took the earring out all together and worked the bump out and let the hole close. I know I have keloid issues from other scars I have. I read some things on pressure earrings that work to prevent the occurance of bumps and also the use of silicone gel pads.
Is it possible to use pressure earrings on an industrial type piercing and still get a bar through it or is there some other plan of action that can be taken to allow an industrial piercing without the unsightly ear bump?? Also I know my first upper ear piercicng was not titanium.
Thank you for your time,
Answer If you've had trouble with bumps, the angle of the piercing, the way you protect it from pressure and friction and the type of jewelry you use all affect the healing.
The use of two small anodized titanium bars may be your best choice, and is what I usually suggest for healing. The friction type studs from a gun tend to be bad quality metal and surface finish and they can do some nasty damage when used to pierce.
