Question
Hi I have had my piercing for 7 weeks now.  Just in the last week I developed this little lump around the bottom half of the stud.  It looks like a little pus pocket.  I showed the place that pierced it and he said it was from sleeping on it.  I asked if there was anything I could do to help it go away, and he said just clean it and not sleep on it.  Now it does not hurt at all, and I don't feel it's infected.  So is there anything I can do to help it go away?  It looks ugly and I don't want anyone seeing it.  Thanks for your response.

Answer
It probably is infected, like an abscess that appears on stitches when irritated or contaminated and will probably go away. There is more you can do for it than just clean it. http://piercing.org/pexy/recovery/recovery.html describes the use of hot compresses which can help the infection drain and the new tissue grow properly because it increases the circulation. Your health and nutrition is the other most important factor. Eating right and getting your vitamins and minerals can help your skin.

You might also consider a change of jewelry to anodized titanium with an example of what we have success with at http://piercing.org/shop in the nose section.
