Question hi, i got my piercing at the beginning of the year so it has been a good few months, but today (6/20/08) i was told to take the stud out at school. I left it out for a few hours and when i tried to get the bar in it had closed up and it now has a big white lump on it but nothing comes out when i squeeze it. what is this lump and how can i get rid of it?
Answer The lump is probably scar tissue from reaction to steel jewelry, as well as pressure and friction. It may be possible to reinsert safe jewelry at a thinner size such as 18g threadless titanium lip posts with an insertion guide as shown at http://piercing.org/shop
Otherwise, let it go away on its own, and see a dermatologist if the scar does not. Usually scars reduce in thickness and discoloration over time.
