Question
I got my lower lip at the side pierced a couple of weeks ago, in the last few days I've noticed that i keep getting numbness around the area. Also i have a small red area around the hole and a hard swelling on the inside of my mouth. Is this caused by an infection? rejection or wrongly placed piercing?

Answer
This seems as if the piercing may be infected and that the jewelry is putting pressure on the local nerves in a bad way. You might wait it out, but only if your jewelry is high quality, because otherwise it may be part of the problem http://piercing.org/faq/jewelry.html describes this in detail.

See a doctor or dermatologist if this persists. Consider gentle aftercare as a change as described at http://piercing.org/pexy/recovery/recovery.html
