Question I've had my tongue pierced for 5 years with no problem, but over the past year it starts to hurt really bad after wearing it a few hours just on the tongue where the peircing is, there isn't swelling or discoloration, but when I take it out the pain is gone...could I have developed some kind of infection?
Answer Check the post for uneven surfaces. It may be damaged in some way, or have a biofilm or plaque. http://piercing.org/faq/jewelry.html explains more about jewelry safety so that you can determine if your piece is appropriate. Infection is possible but unlikely, especially since what you describe comes and goes when you remove and reinsert the jewelry.
